There are so many "fakers" out there. Kids who have some punky like substance for hair like stinky dreads or liberty spikes or whatever and have no punk ethic. They are simply dressed up sheep. Same hairdos as 80's "revolutionaries" and poster punk brats from the suburbs who have money from dead relatives to go to school but pretend they come from poverty. They suck. DIY is buzz and Anarchy is used as a claim to fame for directionless little twats that throw bricks through a Jamba Juice window to show how angry they are for the white middle class upbringing. Maybe you are lonely and you feel like you don't fit, well shove off most young people do...infact most people at some point in their lives do. Does that make you a "freak?" NO. THIS JUST IN: You are like everyone else. There is nothing special about you. You are so average I have no way to describe you. You are not a new thing, a revolutionary or special. If you are a vegetarian or vegan you are even more painfully normal than you think. In fact what makes you so average is your denial.

Denial of everything that evolution has lumped you in with. Real vegetarians or vegans have no front teeth. Look at every Mamal that eats nothing but veggies. Take a deer for instance...eyes on the sides of heads and no front teeth...they have those eyes because they are looking out for "omnivors" ..that would be us.

So if you think you are punk/or revolutionary/ or politically awake/ or counter culture/ or doing something new...shove off you trickle brain. Wake up and smell the fare trade shade grown coffee you are making for the folks who are contributing to society. (Not to say that baristas don't contribute) just saying the odds are if you don't wear deodorant because it "isn't natural" that you offend more than just senses...you must hate your self. You may not have a highly skilled job. And if you own it then it is a career. Also if you work this job then you probably do it for one of two reasons. You may actually have a need to support your self and even kids. I give you my respect. To the others with trust funds who can afford to fly from coast to coast to throw bricks at windows in small businesses... you are a total moron. Those people don't deserve my respect. You mindless brats with silver spoons have college paid for and never have been hungry...you need a sock in the nose. Or maybe...just maybe you need to live in the projects for a bit. Go hungry for a week. Perhaps you should go do a job that requires some humility.

I've seen what selfish looks like. It is someone who wears poverty like a coat...to put on and take off at will. Next time you throw a brick through a store window you remember who your target is. Is it really the people who are working poor? Do they deserve your wrath? That's not Punk. That is not aggression toward the State. It isn't even Anarchy. That is plain ass hole. You see that could have been me relying on that check to feed me. Or my single parent Mother trying to stay on top of bills piling up. It could have been anyone but you... you fakes. Choose your target. You put poor working people in your sights. You better hope we don't come out and meet you in the street to school you in ass whoopin!

Also you should use soap/deodorant and tooth paste it helps me keep friends, it might do something for you too.

UNHOUSED VOTING INDICATORS FOR NOVEMBER 4
I was a Chicago high school student. Black-suited men rapped on our door ordering my terrified father to “Name Names,” or lose his job. My parents, Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party unionists, joined writers and artists like Pete Seeger and Ring Lardner, in the Communist Party.
It wasn’t from bad civics classes that I blanked on my democratic rights under the first ten Constitutional amendments. For years, I avoided politics. I’m still in recovery from an irritating rash left behind by red diaper baby PTSD.
I learned realities of Fascist life early. Maxine Goldbarg said neighbors called her family “Those Jews who caused the War.” Mom warned me not to utter the word “communion.” As a teacher, I took loyalty oaths. I feared denial of a passport.
In The End of America – Letter of Warning to A Young Patriot, Naomi Wolf lists systematic steps by which, democratic rights are dismantled. Allende’s Chile, Bolivia, Indonesia, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Germany, East Germany, and Russia were converted from open to closed totalitarian states.
Like German Jews, the homeless are the Front Guard. During national conversion from Democracy to Fascism, they suffer first what we suffer last.
Neither Presidential candidate has outlined plans to resolve homelessness. But, which would preserve our democratic rights and which quick-step the country into the Bush-Cheney Fascist wetdream that Wolf’s book outlines below?
1. External and Internal Threats.
In the September Bay Guardian, [“What are safe streets? – Mayoral task force looks for ways to protect people in San Francisco from the homeless,”] Amanda Witherell described loss of tourism dollars, not from crime, but from “unpredictable” homeless behavior, reflecting the highest value of our Capitalist Republic – Money.
Honoring Sister Bernie Galvin’s retirement from Religious Witness with Homeless People, activist Richard Marquez quoted Brazilian educator, Paolo Friere asking a woman in a homeless shelter, “Are you American?” Tearfully, she answered, “No! I am poor.” Friere wrote, “That desolate woman expressed…the absence of citizenship. She had been expelled from existence itself.” We treat those without money and homeless as “non-people” without civil or human rights.
Like Hitler’s Jews or Bush’s Al Qaeda “evildoers” with their alleged 911 attempt to annihilate us, the internal threat endangering American capitalism most is the Poor’s public presence interferencing with commerce, bringing the nation down. The protofascist tactic is to scapegoat them as “Others” --- lazy, crazy, addicted, choosing to live on streets. These Dangerous Unsuccessful must suffer and die. Ignore these coalmine canaries at our peril. They foretell our fate.
In a recent SF Weekly article, “Homeless SF State students struggle to stay in school and stay loaded,” Trey Bundy undermines his stereotype of druggies’ deliberate street life. He quotes “Steve” describing depression resulting from an “abusive,”“dysfunctional” family. “That’s why we’re out here. No one in his right mind would be … [homeless].”
Supervisor Angela Alioto, with her strong record of helping the poor, once observed she never saw a homeless person refuse shelter.
By promoting stereotypic scapegoats, such articles skirt homelessness’ root causes which Nixon and Reagan accelerated by underfunding affordable housing. Workers and students in San Francisco’s high rent district, earn wages too meager for housing and quadruple up in apartments.
2. Secret prisons.
Mortgage meltdowns force families from homes. Secret Guantanamos are exposed. Media covered the New Orleans Superdome, showing “Average” citizens the emotional and physical abuse inflicted in homeless shelters.
3. A paramilitary force.
Security habitually harass homeless people.
We are numbed watching TV Cops brutalizing citizens. “Don’t taze me, Bro!” normalizes the presence of police and hired mercenaries waging war on us. In 2006, burly Blackwater guards protecting CEOs from CPMC hospital picketers told me they’d returned from Iraq through New Orleans where they shot people hip-deep in water “looting” food. Amy Goodman, and 14 Republican convention protesters, roughed up and tazed by police, were released from St. Paul jails picking copper wires from their skin.
4. Surveil Ordinary Citizens
Living on streets, homeless “citizens” are easily surveiled. Police Chief Heather Fong at Mayor Newsom’s Street and Neighborhoods workgroup, intended to make downtown “more uncomfortable for homeless and poor people” who “act strangely” and “talk to themselves” (though) “they haven’t committed a crime.” Police sweeps routinely confiscate homeless belongings, violating the Fourth Amendment prohibition against search and seizure.
The Mayor’s workgroup may request data about homeless vendors. Together with information stored in the computerized shelter reservation system “CHANGES,” this could be fed into the National Crime Information Computer Center downloadable to any officer’s laptop, criminalizing the unhoused.
Currently, “We”are experiencing a loss of fourth amendment rights of privacy of our papers. Writes Wolf, “According to the ACLU,” activists should assume “Your e-mail may be monitored and your phone calls tracked.”
5. Infiltrate Citizens’ Groups. “The next time you meet with your anti-war group,” (or a Street Sheet meeting), “…ask yourself if everyone present really is who you think he or she is.”
6. Arbitrarily detain and release citizens.
First Amendment Constitutional rights of the unhoused to assemble --- to sleep, stand, or sit alone or together on sidewalks, under bridges, in encampments in order to secure mutual protection, clean beds, food, and facilities, are routinely violated by police water-cannon washdowns or illegal levy of tickets for “quality of life infractions.” When multiple fines become too high to pay, people are often jailed and released.
Liberal Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy and singer Cat Stevens, now Usef Islam, were detained in airports, “on national security grounds,” according to Wolf.
7. Target Key Individuals.
“Job loss and career setbacks are the first kinds of pressure these people are likely to face.”
Advocates Sister Bernie Galvin, Supervisor Chris Daly and Coalition founder, Paul Boden have been misrepsented for years by the pro-Newsom ‘Chronicle.’
8. Restrict the Press.
“In dictatorships, targeting free press begins with political pressure.” Commentator, Keith Olberman, refers to Fox as “Fixed News.” Journalists know Americans get restricted inaccurate news, stunting our world view.
If you buy our paper, please read and take it seriously? Peer past the mainstream press’ negative PR and distorted homeless news. Coalition advocates offer through ‘Street Sheet’ well-researched documentation and solid reporting and are the City’s homelessness paper of record.
9. Cast Criticism as “Espionage” and Dissent as “Treason.”
Police distribute a photo depicting Chris Daly open-mouthed in an officer’s face, painting him a lawbreaker. Protesting Hastings’ threat to replace housing with parking structures, Daly grimaces painfully from the officer’s thumb lock.
10. Subvert the Rule of Law.
The unconstitutionality of quality of life “infractions” doesn’t stop City officials denying citizens without walls the right to rest, lie, or sit in the only place they can --- under the sky.
As of today, legendary Bush-Cheney subversions of Rule of Law evoke constant cries to “Impeach.”
A famous caution about our present political predicament is apt.

Ralph Nader is truely a tragic hero. He is a constant reminder that we have a broken Democary in this country...whoops I meant to say Democracy didn't I? Well none the less here is a man who by shear will has marked our world in positive ways he himself may never quite be ever thanked for. Wonder how it is that cars are safe enough now that you can survive a crash ? Or labels on food? Many consumer laws that we take for granted are the result of Ralph Nader's work. He deserves to be President. He more than likely will never be. We don't live in a just world, if we did then he would get a chance to debate and if people heard him he might even get votes.

A U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of California has ruled that the City of Fresno's practice of immediately seizing and destroying the personal possessions of homeless residents violates the constitutional right of every person to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.

"The question is no longer whether the City will have to pay damages to class members, but how much," said attorney Oren Sellstrom of the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights. "Given that many homeless people lost everything they owned in these illegal sweeps - including their medicines and items of tremendous sentimental value - we believe the damage award will be significant."

"The Court's ruling in this class-action lawsuit makes it clear that our Constitution protects the rights of everybody, rich or poor," said attorney Michael Risher of the ACLU of Northern California. "It should send a strong message to other cities throughout our country that if they violate the rights of their most vulnerable residents, they will be held accountable."

Six plaintiffs provided testimony in the case, Kincaid v. City of Fresno, on behalf of the entire class, which includes all homeless people in Fresno who had their property seized and destroyed by the City or by the California Department of Transportation. The case was bought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and the firm of Heller, Ehrman, LLP. Read more here...

Can you imagine that Bank of the West actually took a bench back after it was gifted to the public? Because people who were not "commercial enough" were sitting on it. That is the way the story that inspired this illustration goes. So some older folks , cute older folks sat at this bench "for years". So a sense of entitlement over the "public" space grew and they must have thought of it as theirs. Wrong. Then homeless also used the public space (tends to make homelessness visible), some one didn't like that because it is much easier to sweep the poor off the street than face poverty. Well when we look at this situation fairly we have to understand that although it is public space, not all people are given the same treatment in our society. Ok I love mature people, they usually have such wisdom and such wonderful experience to report and offer to their fellow man, this time they come off looking insensitive. If we are gonna work together in this world we have to get together. Bank of the West was the real culprit here. They need to serve the community better. Bring back the bench they took!

People can be so cruel. Imagine if you were homeless and someone said "I'm Fine" when you were suffering? San Francisco can call itself "liberal", "Progressive" and some times even "compassionate". But come on! Next time some one offers you a Street Sheet you have to realize that that person is not begging, in fact they earn that little dollar by standing in the street and asking people to read this informative paper. I have to say the paper is getting better and I have found that it is a hot read on occasion. So buy it..it offers a man some dignity, and don't lose yours by snubbing the distributor wit a comment like "I'm Fine!"

Well there is new hope. The hope is far beyond just the vote. It is visible only from the hill of action. We must as a nation go there with healing in mind. We don't reach across the isle...we reach over to our brothers and sisters. No more lables...WE ARE THE PEOPLE! And guess what...we are in charge of this country. Not the Country Club "Good Old Boys" that we have in office now. We now need to protest the press when we think that they are doing something wrong. Show up at the places where the lies begin. The news stations. Ok this is dangerous for me I work in TV...but I believe in Democracy! I have no faith in the television business. I am not a "Rebel" I am a realist...a humanitarian.

Lack of concern..that is what is wrong with our world today. I think that the more success you have the better you should treat people. I don't feel disenfranchised. I have great friends. To me that is being rich. Truely. I remember times when my mother would work so hard just the crappy shifts. I have straight teeth because of that. I am working class. I work, and I love it. In my life I have made some money here and there on a project, but never enough to be considered "successful" by world standards. But when I think of real poverty...I have never experienced it. I was always fed, always house (well when I was 19 and I was taking graphic art classes, I didn't want to leave so I stayed in the car) but heck that never felt homless.

I have done so well in some ways since then. I continue to be published and paid for illustrations and cartoons. I also give them away. The punchier I get the more people like the cartooons. I am so afraid some times to offend people. Then again it is my art, my statement and I should never fear using my 1st amendment right.

I mean heck a right not used is a right not enjoyed!

Does it ever occur to anyone that we are snowballing problems and not immediately seeing these issues as "State of Emergency"?

What are you going to do today about any of these things? I am taking the bull by the horns today. I am making phone calls, collecting clothes, getting ready for a meeting tomorrow and doing my part. It is the moral thing to do. I don't care if Gavin Newsom is doing coke! I don't care if Brittany Spears is in rehab...The real news is on the street, in front of you San Francisco, do something today because you live here! And these folks are human.

Tonight 3 million Americans will sleep on an empty belly. 60% of the homless population is mentally ill. Our current culture is both cruel and disfunctional. Are we poised to see our brothers and sisters go hungry and bare the cold alone. Many of the homeless are elderly and certainly some self medicate. Could you blame them? This moment .51 cents on every dollar is going to murder people in other lands and ethnic cleansing the land of people who would oppose our exploiting their land for oil. We are puttng bases in Iraq and spread worse emperialism than our globe has ever seen. Not King George nor even Hiltler was this successfull and this kind exploitative action. Ok Suddam is gone. Now get out! We have no right! Our freedom is a free Universally given right! FREEDOM IS FREE! The current administration wants you to believe it costs billions and that we have to do what we are doing in Iraq to have it. So when you think of Homeless for the Holidays think internationally. Think Iraq, think Stockton California, think of what Empire does to create it. Now that the people have spoken and said NO MORE! to the Congress , the US Congress has shrunken in its agressive stance against the war. We need to demand that our leader do what we order him to do. His power is not absolute, it is not over our freedom. Lawyers can write and argue all they want. Our Human rights are to have freedom, and it is free! Blood shed is the resut of many well meaning people laying down their lives for a lying and greedy few rich who will continue to lie and continue to tell you that "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE".

There is an artform to shooting video. I have been watching my cousins do it for 20+ years. The industry has changed though. technology (which I have kept up with) and every thing is going to the "small screen". I don't mind. It is gving us "kids" a chance to play. Now cameras are half menu driven and you can get real progressive HD on a tuny tape. Chips don't have to be the size of a trisket to get beautiful pictures. In fact as technology has gotten better the software and chips deliver pictures that compete and when against 50,000.00 Cameras. Scripps Networks just bought 150 cameras of my model. That makes me happy! Have vision...I do.

In the past people who "fought for freedom" really believed that they were doing the right thing. Now that the Bush Administration is exploiting the military for the interests of the oil companies and companies that make money on War "contracting", we have many new problems due to his poor management of the peoples power. The US President is not all powerful, no matter what new laws Cheney has opened up to Bush. The War is a humanitarian disaster for millions of people. People in Iraq, the US military, the very conscience and strength of our culture is being undermined by "W". Our security is compromised in the name of "homeland security". Think about the new flood of Vets who are being dumped while they still need help. Hospital Dumping is now becomming a regular practice even for our service men. GET THE STREET SHEET IN SF

It is the only paper dedicated to informing people on the reality of Homlessness in SF. This was a graphic made to support the Coalition in SF. This city has a poor rep for how it handles it's "house challenged". So I decided to team up with any writer who would work with me to raise the awareness and let people know that there are some folks who do care about them. Celebs can be cool or they can suck!

Ok some celebs are freaked out by fame some have "no time" for fans and others are just great. I was up in Glen Ellen for work the past couple of days and many unusual things happened. First...it was a fun shoot. Second, there was plenty of wine (I usually don't touch the stuff, but hey I don't want to offend anyone!).

Then I met and actor that I think is great...Allan Rickman..."Mr. Harry Potter!" -As Professor Snape

I don't get star struck and I don't seek out photos usually...but for this actor I made an exception.

Some celebs have no time for fans. He was very polite and seemed to be on a break so we "Coco" my producer and I asked if we could take a picture. He said yes.He is taller than I had expected and very easy going and pleasant. He usually plays a snotty brit, but as him self...he seemed pretty cool. I thanked him after the photo and shook his hand and said" please enjoy your time in the wine country" he replied, "I will thank you". He looks you in the eye, is genuine and very polite. He is a fantastic face to have in a picture and the picture they are doing is about the Napa Valley wines competing with the french wines. I can't wait to see it. I have met many famous people while doing the work I do, not usually in this way. He was on some one elses set this time. Maybe one day I will have the pleasure of working with Allan. Till then I have to let it be known...he may play a "bad guy" here and there but I suspect he is actually a good guy. That is a good actor isn't it?

I have to mention, the guy over his right shoulder (camera left) is Dallas, our DP for "Green with Envy" and we were working with Jonathan Levit a real magician and actor (X-Files) etc. Jonathan is the real deal. Super talented and fun to be around. With any luck he should be as famous as Mr. Rickman and he is definatly not a jerk! In fact if you every meet Mr. Levit at the Magic Castle in Hollywood tell him you read my blog and know that he is the "real deal" and the best guy in show biz to work with. If you are lucky he might take a picture with you too.

Some one said to me that they didn't want to see the pictures SiCKO because as he put it "Micheal Moore is a Socialist!"

What? He is a self admitted Catholic. And being raised with some moral fiber that centers around the teachings in its most basic form of Jesus you may have to ask your self what did Jesus believe? Well if actions say something about his faith then you might want to examine this: Jesus healed the sick, at no cost to them, every chance some one asked for help, even in circumstances where they didn't want to have his message. Some with faith some without. Hmmmmm that sounds pretty nice of him. If you believe in the guy you might want to emulate him in every way you could. You may not be able to make a blind man see...So Michael Moore has his work cut out for him. "Those who have ears let them hear, those with eyes let them see" Mr. Moore, The healthcouldcareless system and capitalism is broken, so is modern day Christianity. God bless you for trying it anyway Mike! People haven't changed since Jesus time. Still selfish, bigoted and illogical to the ten hundreth degree. But in a world of "white Washed tombs" at least some Film makers are taking the chance because they have morals and a conscience. Didn't Jesus try to get that going too?

CREATE YOUR OWN HERO!

Let your imagination go nuts! Your hero can have unlimited powers or be a very "average" guy who just wants to fight evil! What ever you do think about what makes and interesting hero. Has your hero lived for a long time? If he has he could be super smart because he has had time to gather knowledge. Does your hero have a weakness? perhaps something others can relate to. That makes for a more complex hero but it also makes your hero some one others can relate to. Then write your in your bad guy. Why is your super villain a threat?

Do some research. You see if you have a mad scientist as a bad guy and you don't know anything about science, you better get on the ball and do some reading. What ever you do make both the illustration and the personality traits complex and interesting. Give your hero flaws...flaws that any one who reads about your hero could relate to.

Want to hear something dangerous? Make a bad guy that people can relate to. That also makes for a more complex story. Get attached to the bad guy before you know he is bad. Vulnerability makes for fine nemesis. OOOOOh this is gonna be fun! I am going to have to get to the drawing board tonight. Heck I drew this yesterday because developing a new Hero has been on my mind.

This is a book cover that I illustrated when I was 20, with over 27 illustrations. At that time I was working for a Kinkos Copies and selling my art to local publications for ads and for graphics. Graphics was easy back then. One of my buddies was a genetic engineer named Ernie Hubbard of the "Pure Harvest Method". He grew rice. I wish I'd kept in touch with him. He was an adult and I was a "Young Genius" according to tests done on be by doctors at the college. I have always loved scientists and artists. They actually think alike in many ways and show eachother new ways to think. In those talks we chatted about Women, God, Love, Friends and Family. He challenged my concepts of who I thought I was. Just as the IQ tests did, I thought I was just retarded. The tests results according to the Doctor said that I could do anythng I wanted to. Dr. Katz said that I could be a doctor if I wanted to. She said that I was a true genius. In fact my Mother bought me a bunch of pencils that said "Genius at Work" on them and I was teased endlessly. So I didn't tell many people about the IQ tests. Plus who is to say, I could just be "clever". I have to admit to one thing, I do see the world through different logic than most and my passions sometimes look more like obsessions. From the outside I am humble looking and unremarkable. The fact that I have been drawing since 3 and in college they either let me do independant study in art and teachers would let me aid others tells you nothing about what it really means though. Dr. Katz when trying to interpret what my scores meant asked many questions of me and told me many things about why I was chosen for testing. Genius...what an odd concept. "this can't be true" I thought to myself. After all I was akward and had a low self esteem. I was depressed and felt like I would always amount to nothing. I can't do math to save my life, that is with out a good calculator. But almost everything from music/art/even some business concepts seem to come to me as easily as the logic of following a path for which I have no real map. (my logic is free form) We are really the ones who set our destiny in motion. A vision in my minds eye is the beginning of anything I have achieved. If that and the ability to control my own dreams makes me a genius, than so be it. What ever it means...I am still finding that out. Find the Genius in you...look inside and break through your own self esteem issues. If art or music or poetry or even math help you do that, then do that! Oh and while you are doing it, do it with love.

Today I am working on another book illustration for publication. I am the same person, with some maturity and wieght added. I still feel insecure sometimes. I have been published in books, products, music, papers, and video. I never really feel as though I haven't acomplished anything. I even Directed a video at Universal Studios once. Nothing I do really feels like enough. Nothing really matters but having people with whom I have loving relationships. My fiance once said to me " you are really well acomplished"...The only thing that matters is really how much Love you are able to bring to this world. The world needs more of it than you might think. So the next time some one accuses you of being a Genius, if you aren't putting Love into this world, remember this; " you aint that smart!"

Then you come home and get your pen to paper and fight villans in the evening hours. You are now a director/writer and creative master of your own comix! You see in the real world we can't fight all these villans, but in comix you can.

I have a couple of students that are grown up! They are at a point in their life where they want to explore being creative on paper again. This one lady works at an internet start up and she writes stories. She wants to get better at drawing and maybe illustrate her own books. If it puts me out of business, thats ok. As long as she is really enjoying her life as an artist. Heck who needs money anyway?....uh...I do! Well no worries I may have a couple of years to save bread while she is learning.

Then I have two new students who are just before Jr. high. Great time to get turned on to art and really dig into characters and learn to draw dramatic physical heros. This one fella was really getting into spider man. He picked a tough one to draw right off the bat. The art was so tough that I would think twice about it. And the other young man didn't want anything to do with my lessons, he said he was "bored". Whoops! Some one had an attention span challenge. That was totally ok, he needed to be challenged and wanteed to draw something else. I figure it is better that we find what he likes to draw that way he can build his concentration. Once he found some Pokiemon stuff that he digged it was on! he was sitting t the table doing some great work with a complex backround.

I was reading Steven Kilbeys' blog (lead singer and poet of The Church) The Church best known for "Under the Milky Way", a song about what sounds like a confusing sexual encounter where a man has had his way with a woman but doesn't care to give her anything else. His poems are deep and his music is great. One of the best. he cracked a joke about smoking when I saw the Church live. It was funny...it explains alot. Steve knows no boundries.

Ok so we all have to pay taxes. But do we have to pay all taxes? I am no tax expert so I am not here to offer you advice, well one word...WRITE! Write Nancy Pelosi and tell her to lean on Bush to use our money (Yes it is ours) to pay for health care, roads, small business loans, municipal management, Services, Safety (fire/police), EDUCATION! Etc. Anything but WAR. I am paying my taxes and hoping "W" gets a clue. The American People are fed up with his WAR. If you want your country back, write the white house and tell'm. Then pay your taxes, at least the ones that go to health care and education. Free speech is usually for those who can afford it. Katrina, school shootings, Anna Nicole Smiths' life is more interesting to POP Culture than the day to day mechanics of Democracy. If we actually had one it would be great. But you see when the rich and the Big Corporations are allowed to control Government then "the people" have no such thing. You want Democracy? Have no shame in critiquing our Government. For those who would say "Love it or Leave it" I say, I love my country enough to stay and change it! It would only be easy for those in power to have people of conscience move to Canada! NOPE! We are staying! And changing this ruse of a Democracy into something that is.

OPEN LETTER TO OPRAH! HELP!

Dear Oprah,

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Over the past couple of years I have been working on a project that has proven it self both challenging and rewarding. On a shoe string I have been producing a picture about a friend of mine. Cleven “Goodie” Goudeau. He is a man who has changed my life and history. What makes this soft-spoken gentleman so powerful to those who meet him? His true strength is in the fact that he has lived a life of “ positive proof”. What I mean by that is that he has shown me through example that one person can make a quiet difference in the world through culture and through Love. Goodie is a pioneer in the greeting card industry. He is the first African
American to put out a full line of “Contemporary African American Greeting Cards” from 1962 to the mid 70’s he made the most amazing greeting cards. I would bet that you have either received on of his cards or given one. His story needs to be told and told quickly. Recently he was informed that his ticker needed help. So one eye, 25% of his heart, diabetic, digestive cancer and a tumor in the brain later he is still making kids smile with his cartooning. He has a Cleo Award from the Thirst Buster Ads in the eighties. Remember “Who you gonna call? Thirst Busters!” done after the Ghostbusters Song. Well that was his campaign from when he was an Art Director at McCann Eriksson in NY.
His story is one of faith, hope, love and creativity. At a time when African Americans were not even represented in much of media or they were told “there is no market for African American greeting cards there”-Hallmark. Goodie continued with his idea and found support. In the 60’s things seemed nuts, the Black Panther Party first threw his cards in the street because they thought it was “White capitalism over Blacks”. When he informed them that they were made by an Afro-centric company so that the faces would represent his community, then they were celebrated! It wasn’t even in the consciousness yet. As time went by sayings like “Soul Sister” and “Black is Beautiful” or “Grow an Afro!” would become staples at Goodie Cards. Ten years later…Mahogany Line would be born. From that “other unmentionable company” as he would put it to me.

I love and respect this man. I would hope you and others of African American decent would also be inspired by him as well. To help me get his beautiful story out I am asking publicly for your help. Please watch the “GOODIE TRAILORS”.

Goodie Cartoons and Documentary Oprah you there

So Goodie is going to get some help with his Ticker! He has had some bad health problems and it worries me. I hope he holds out so I can finish this Documentary. So far no budget has come to me. I have sent emails looking for some one who is interested in fuding the finishing of this picture. He has inspired me to work on his story and I got the Chronicle to do an article. At the time I thought it would be easy to find the money to sweeten this thing. Now I am losing heart. He has done so much for Affrican Aerican "Positive Black Images" that some one should be running to me with a big check book! But hey that's the breaks. I am looking forward to getting it done as my testimony of great faith in the way he has conducted his great wealth of talent in all these years. 1st African American "Contemporary Greeting Cards". he is a Master cartoonist and a peer to Charles Shultz, Morrie Turner and Ed Renfro. Morrie said in an interview that I shot " I wish I had thought of it".

I have tried to get ahold of Oprah Winfrey...no answer yet...She could make this thing sing with a budget and help me get his remarkable story out to educate people on the history of Black Images. I hope I am not to late.

PAINTING AND CARTOONING AND ENGAGING!

Some times all I want to do is paint. Today I am underwhelmed. I want to get some thing done but lack some of the motivation to do it. Some people know that I have been a fine art painter for years. Some only see me as a cartoonist. Others, like my Moms' husband Scott love just my pen and ink. I love to do it all and I would like to be paid for it again. I aint askin much! Just a token of a payment to get me out of the artstore with some new colors. I have been painting for years. i have painted large paintings of about 13 x 23 feet and small 3x3 inches. If I start putting my oil paintings up maybe some one will commission me. You know what is the most important thing in my world right now? The fact that I just got engaged. Christina has a ring now and we are engaged. Three years later we are making it real. I have been wanting this...and she has too for some time now. The last week was incredible. Now we have to plan. That is the real reason to paint. My soul is more joyful than it ever has been. Maybe that is why I can't paint? I am still basking in the afterglow of the engagement. I love this girl more than I can describe. I am truly happy.

If you go to that link to that link you will find some interesting stuff. It seems to lead me to several options. I googled F-9 and found coagulant protien strains. At least with my unscientific eye that is all I get. Then I got Wayne Schottens' blog and some sci-fi and sci-fact! MK-Ultra comes to me through Google. A strory that was taken off a link and on second search doesn't exsist. The name, Zak Owens poped up and now doesn't. Where did it go?

Iam consfused. If anyone knows anything about this I would like to have your input.

Will cartoons fix this country?

Do you think that Cartoons coyuld really change things in this world? Well I do. Think of how art effects people. Micheal Angelo, Charlz Schultz, TJ WALKUP? maybe...I work hard on my art, but not hard enough. Some people put out drawings constantly. I will be doing some work for the SF Street Sheet soon. I have given cartoons, sold cartoons, made them for friends, family and my self. If I ever made something like the artists in Denmark, well then I wouldd be doing something really rude but making a statement. Those cartoons weren't so bad. But the Religious Right of the Muslims were freaking out. Even Christiansd believe that "you shalll make no graven image of God". But who really gives a crap. Soem of these people are so simple minded we should never cave into what they want. Free speech is the only Holy thing. Yes cartoons will change the world. They will draw out the simple minded and the twisted into the same conversations. Robert Crumb actually tried to offend every one when he first started. Making statements and excorcising demons , so to speak. Is that the way I want to make my statements? Well...not really. I would rather ake intelligable arguments for peace and if I ruffle feathers I want it to be because what I am saying usually comes from a place of gracious disagreement. It may not allways be possible, but hey...I don't want Muslims extremists hhunting me down on public transit, or Christinas for that matter.

Why would a cartoonist want to make the world a better place? Because cartoonists are people too. Tons of famous cartoonists have slept in doorways while they were trying to get thier art out. So I offered to do some stuff for the street sheet. I hope they use me as a regular contributor. I know they could use some light hearted stuff and it would be great to see them print my work. I know that it would be contributing to and informative and much needed reality check of a paper. You see homelessness is politics too. It isn't visible enough to really shake the world for change. I hope that cartoons that I contribute will help them become more visible. We could solve this issue in the U.S. if we made it illegal for the state to let people go hungry and homless.

Cartoons, Paintings, Photos, now a Blog. Geeze I am pathetic. Tonight I am up late because I have troubles with the IRS. I don't mind giving money to the government, in fact I know they provide some good services (none of them being security). People need to have cash to teach our kids, give medical to the elderly and feed children in foster care. There are some very good things that government does. But the process of collecting my money is not as pretty as the picture I paint. Look at the rolling hills and blue sky. Notice there are no tax collectors in the painting. Everyone at the IRS I have talked to up till now has been very cool. They are filled with information that I cannot retain. I scribble down things as fast as I can. I constantly make head way and lose month to month. It is not that I don't make money. It is that I have a hard time collecting money. One company I worked for was on a 60 day payme plan. In that time my phone bill was getting crazy and in general I was busted. I squeaked by though. I got the money from them and now the IRS wants it. They'll get it! I just hope they are able to take it in little chunks. I want to pay Uncle Sam, I just need a little Mercy to do it little by little.

IN 2004 THE NOE VALLEY VOICE did a pretty good article on me and has inspired me to take my cartooning more seriously.

It hasn't been a landslide but it has been very cool. Ever since I started working with Goodie on the Documentary http://goodiecards.com

Since then it has been and adventure in inspiration. I have met Morrie Turner (Wee Pals on Creators Syndicate), Ed Renfro (Award winning children's book illustrator from the 1960's), Etu Evans (Martel Man & shoe designer in Harlem, does shoes for Madonna), Al Freni (Time Magazine Books & President Eisenhower's personal Photog), Eddie Locke (Great Day In Harlem Jazz fame). I have met so many wonderful people in the process of promoting art. I may not be finacially rich from cartoons, but I am all inspired socially, politically and photographicly. I have been doing some political cartoons and recieved rejections from some of the best publishers. The New Yorker and such. cartooning for TJ Walkup is going to be a life long adventure, thanks to Goodie.

Apparently people see the world differently. Most of us see the glass half empty. Gas prices are bad but they can always get worse. They will. If the presidents buddies get their way the rest of us will continue to be unwilling slaves to support the wealthiest 1%. Did I call us slaves? I did. I did think of that concept as extreme, but now it seems to make sense in the current climate. Think about a people who are ruled by another class and do not benefit from the "commons". As the "commons" are ever disappearing into the pockets of the already wealthy, most of us are standing by watching the world being dominated by banks and misserable morons with power. Our President is a boob. Now at least we have Palosi. She may not seem to be enough but we a have to start some where. Oh and any woman that can manage more than three kids can handle the over grown babies like Dick Cheney and W. We know Condi is evil but we'll forgive her because we know she couldn't have slept her way to the top. And hey she is Black...I mean not to people like Arron McGruder. But hey we aren't asking for much in this country. We have to start letting people of color (all colors) get ahead in government. Women could save the world if we let them. If women out numbered men in government we would have a better run country. And if some one behaived like George W. Bush we could give them a permanent "TIME OUT!". I don't believe in spanking kids but if I thought it would help I'd say "some one should spank George.

Ok so now we have a poltential lame duck President. I always thought he was lame and most of the American people who still believe in the Presidency are the same people who beleive in Santa Claus. "Claus" sounds very, well...we won't get into that. Now that Palosi is up in Washington there is hope for the common folk. But Bi- Partisan? I hope not. If this country is to save it's soul then the only party Palosi needs listen to is the people. Remember "We the people"? Yeah, well that is a great idea but we need to make it so. People of the U.S. need to move the Empire out of the White House and USher the "The People" in. It may take years to do this but it's worth doing.

It has taken so lobg to out wheels on a cart, thousands of years.

Now we have great cartoons. I was surfing the web and I get alerts and one of the alerts lead me to andertoons.com. Wow what a resource for other cartoonists. Also Cartoon Opportunities and the movie Comicbook Confidential. My buddy Rob from (Secret Secret) intorduced me to an artist who has done work for DC. Big Al Gordon, well Al is a jaded and slightly bitter fella who seems to know everyone. He in fact knows tons of people who I either know or have had a brush with in some way. And if he doesn't have some direct connection then he knows their work. Smart guy, the kinda fella who could rule the world if givin the opportunity. Oh and if that world exsisted there would be more comix around and he wouldn't be in comix. Any who, I have been keeping up with Mike Lynch and Andertoons as well as always having Cleven "Goodie" Goudeau on my mind and in my immediate sphere. It has been and amazing two years. I have met amazing people and learned some incredible things as I get ready to enter the world of graphic novels, cartoons and actually getting involved in my community. There are so many paranoid people in San Francisco. It is both a pleasure and a challenge to be around all these people. Creativity fourishes in a paranoid society. The cartoonist are at the cent of everything of value in this culture. They all read so much. To write humor and to entertain the adolescent id while educating them on some level to the value of suspician in our communities. IS IT LEGAL? should poo be able to back up in my shower? Is it mine? My land lord is impossible to get a hold of so I am going to try and figure out how to remedy this in a lowtech way. A plunger is in order today. I have had a lot of fiber lately and there is no excuse for this Sh&*! Since my land lord is usually MIA I will have to settle for hard work with the plunger. He gives us a good deal so I shouldn't complain.

Ok now the holiday is over. Thank God! What the hell are people thinking? I find myself getting depressed every Christmas. Usually I am broke or sometimes it's just the weather and gaining more weight that gets me down. What ever it is I am happy I wasn't put on the "naughty list". If you managed to avoid it too, then hats off to you! As you can see by my Christmas card cover the "naughty list" is the wrong list to be on.

FIRE YOUR BOSS! Remember no one is really the boss of you but you! Sure you got to eat, but isn't it better to have a modest meal bought with cash you earned that some one owed you because you worked hard then money you got from some corperate suit idiotwho believes that you still owe him because he gave you the job? Well buddy listen close when I fired my boss it was because I kinda like my dignity. I would rather eat horse vomit then lose my dignity to some privledged jerko who thinks he is doing me a favor getting work done he needs to have done well. When I met this ass I was looking for a job, so looking for a job doesn't scare me! It is just as much my fault if I let some moron abuse me or speak down to me. In fact I know that I am smarter than this simple pimple on the ass of humanity. I was having dreams about making a cartoon where my boss is a piniata. So you think I am angry at that point? Of course. It is my fault if I don't do something about it. Oh and when I quit...I found out that I had a support group of people I have known for years who were asking me "I was wondering why you hadn't done that years ago". Every one has been great. So if you do good work, don't take your self for granted. FIRE YOUR BOSS! Let some one who is to stupid to know what abuse is get the job. Their ignorance will save them from caring.

Ok I am home sick and why do you care? I really can't stand blogs so why did I start one? I guess when you are home sick and you have some time on your hands and there is a limit to what you can do because people owe you money and you are broke and bitter! What do you do? START YOUR OWN BLOG! Who cares about what I think? It is pathetic, I mean this is an online diary. Something 13 year old girls write so other 13 year old girls can see how much they love some one. I don't get it. But I will try it. Maybe I am just as goofy as a 13 year old girl. It's a new year. I have got to do something.

Get rid of my belly? Excercise? Start smoking?...If you are reading my blog you have to much time on your hands.
